I didn't chicken out

I had been dreading my 10 year high school reunion ever since Brett went to his back in 06. I didn't hate high school but I didn't think it was "the best years of my life" and I think I have watched too many movies or tv shows about people going back to their high school reunions so I had it really built up. What would people think of me? Have I accomplished everything I wanted to in the last ten years (no)? UGH....do I care enough to do this to myself, seriously what is the big deal about 10 year reunions, who cares?!

Then...I realized that I need to start "doing" instead of wondering "what-if" and "regretting" not doing things. Seriously, what is the worst that could happen. If I walk in and hate it or feel uncomfortable then I can just leave and that is it, I at least did it. Thankfully I have some wonderful friends from high school that I am still in great friends with I knew that I would have to show up alone (cause Brett had to work).

First of all I was worried about what to wear, what to do with my hair and what to do with my makeup. It can be so hard to be a girl, Brett didn't put in 1/100th of the thought into what he was going to wear for his h.s. reunion as I did into my outfit and he looked great. Anyways, I needed to go get some lipstick at M.A.C. and if you didn't know this about M.A.C. if you spend a certain amount they will do your makeup for you (there are different amounts for just eyes or full face). I have done this before for weddings, special events and am so glad I did it for my reunion, cause my makeup looked hot and there is no way I would have been able to do this myself. Here is an iPhone shot of the makeup before the night started.

You know what else helped get me ready for the reunion? Alcohol. Yes, shots of Jameson and then some vanilla vodka and dr. pepper. Yes, I pre-drank before the party. You can judge me but I had no nerves going into the reunion.

I did enter the reunion the way I entered my high school career, the dorkiest way possible by tripping. Thankfully the only people who saw it were people who are still great friends in my life and they see my make a dork out of myself all the time. After I recovered from the trip it was a bunch of "Heys!!!!" and hugs and catching up and drinks and pictures. It was great, I laughed, caught up and even got to show off Brett (who showed up after he got off work).

Here are some photos of the evening. Seriously, still so happy that I decided to go, I have absolutely no regrets about the night.

I can't wait for the 20 year and even better to catch up with some of my old high school friends in the meantime.

Also, this was on my list of 101 things to do in 1001 days and I get to cross it off, booyah!

Being Back Home

I just want to say this; how awesome is Brett with the birthday posts? I know I have said it before but I have the most wonderful, caring, loving husband in the world. I am so lucky and have never been happier and can't imagine my life without Brett.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I love being back home....with Brett and the pups. As much as I love travelling and I love my job and my coworkers there is nothing like being home. Although getting home yesterday wasn't as easy as I hoped, after missing my connection in Denver and hanging out longer than anyone wants to in an airport I finally made it home last night around midnight. When Brett showed up in the baggage claim to meet me, all the crap from the day disappeared and I am reminded how great life is. Then getting home to see the pups was even better, they make everything right and they are so darn cute. I got lots of sleep and cuddle time.

Now that I am back to Reno and back to reality, I have to get myself ready for my 10 year high school reunion tonight. I can't believe that it has already been 10 years. I am so excited and yet so incredibly nervous to see people that I haven't seen in 10 years. I don't know what to expect and the more I think about it the more my stomach gets into knots. I really wish that Brett didn't have to work tonight so that he could go with me because he is my security blanket. Thankfully I have a couple of girlfriends that also have to go by themselves so we are going as each other's dates.

For my high school reunion I dug up this old gem from my senior year scrapbook.

Now, I am off to get ready for tonight, wish me luck and I will definitely have a recap for you all.

Happy Birthday Sara, Part 2

Yes, Sara has to work today. On her birthday. On a Sunday, no less.
week of 10.28.08
But if she had to be working anywhere on her birthday, I'm sure she'd pick Boston, one of her favorite cities on the planet.

Every time she goes there for work (usually twice a year) she'll call me from the bars, tell me she's been drinking nothing but Jameson's (she never drinks whiskey anywhere else) and tells me how we're moving to Southie, becoming Catholics and Red Sox fans, and raising a large family.

I love her sense of adventure. We joke all the time about how, if our kids are lucky, they'll wind up with Sara's aggressiveness and my laid-back attitude...

... and if they're unlucky, they'll end up having my aggressiveness and her not-so-laid-back attitude...

...but this is why we work so well together. If there's a time and a place get things done, to be pissed off, or to fight for something, she steps up. If it's time to stay calm, sit back, and let things work out, I'll step up.

I'm glad I found that one person that balances me out so perfectly. Hope you've had a happy 28 years, and here's to many, many more. After that, I'm naming a bench after you.
Love you babe...

Happy Birthday Sara! Part 1

We have a printer/scanner at the house. Sara has lots of great pictures from when she was growing up, and lots of great photos of us together, pictures that are totally scannable. I have been fighting with this printer/scanner for a few hours now, and I'm only now starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. If Sara were here, this would have been resolved within minutes.

Here's the deal... Sara makes my life work. When she's gone for work, I can barely run my life. I don't know when to go to bed, I don't know when to wake up, I let the house absolutely fall apart, and I utterly fail at making technology do what I want it to do. I have high hopes that at some point today, I'll be able to post the birthday message she deserves, but it's going to take some effort...

Love you babe...

To my dad

Happy Father's Day. I can't believe that 28 years ago today it was your first father's day and it was also the same day you became a father for the first time.
my dad & me

There is no doubt that there is a special bond between father's and their daughters and that is exactly the case with us. I had really wanted to write up something sappy to tell you how much you mean to me and what a wonderful father you and how lucky I am to have you in my life but I don't think I will be able to do it justice here on the blog. But you know all those things above and you know how much I love you. Instead I decided to dig up old photos of us, look how young we were?

my dad & me
I love it when my birthday falls on father's day as it is our day and I wish that we were spending today together but since we can't I am totally going to make it up to you later (wine trip?!).

I love you so much and hope you have a wonderful fathers day.

Never Again

will I fly a red eye without being in a seat like this.......

BUT....I doubt that is going to happen anytime soon. But who couldn't sleep on a plane with accommodations like that?

Needless to say I maybe got a quick cat nap sometime before the sun rose at the unholy hour of 3am PST (at least that is what it said on my watch) and I couldn't go back to bed. Besides the lack of sleep, my shoulder feels like an elephant sat on it and my skin is breaking out. The silver lining to the whole thing is that I am in Boston (yeah!) and my room was ready when I got to the hotel at 8 am, so I was able to take a long much deserved nap (can you call it a nap if it lasts 6 hours?).

Anyways, I love this city and am I heading out to meet up with some of my coworkers and explore the city, drink and all the amazing things that Boston has to offer.

psst...hey Brett, want to move to Boston?

just wanted to add that by no means did I have a seat like the one above, I had your standard, cramped, no leg room, no personal space coach seat which is so perfect for sleeping in or sitting in for almost 6 hours, seriously.

This Date in History

1767- While circumnavigating the world, Samuel Wallis becomes the first European to see, and set foot on, Tahiti.

Jerry, too bad that you aren't setting foot on Tahiti today. But I am sure Kenna and the girls have a great birthday planned for you.

Happy birthday, Jerry!

Rain, Rain Go Away

The first couple of days of rain were great, but almost three weeks of rain can really start to wear on anyone. It's hard to enjoy the patio furniture that we put outside, or take the morning walks that we were taking, or even enjoy a good old baseball game.

Today with all the family intown we had lots of wedding planning errands to run today and plans of going to the baseball game tonight. But the weather had other plans for us.

The rain was even making Maggie a little sad. I really think she is bored with having to stay inside all the time.

I really don't hate the rain but I am really in need of some sun and some summer weather. This whole cold in June thing in Reno is not what I had hoped for when I moved from San Francisco (we left the cold summer weather there)

Because

.....the weather has been so wacky around here

.....Brett and I don't really have anything exciting going on (we can be quite boring)

.....we have both been working nonstop

.....sometimes there is nothing to blog about

Okay, really because we have been experienceing such bizarre weather lately which has resulted in more rain than is normal for a desert climate like Reno. Its been both parts wonderful and weird. It's really made everything green and lush, but it has also been strange in that we haven't had to turn on our air conditioning yet and its already the second week in June. Even through all the craziness of my work schedule I decided to take some time out and photograph all the benefits of the 10 days of rain.

For a real update, Brett is busy again with the team back in town. I am getting ready to leave for a conference next friday. This weekend my mom is town as well as my sister and her family because we are doing wedding planning. Less than 4 months until my sister Jennifer and her awesome fiance Travis get married (don't freak out Jenn when you read this-everything will be fine) and I can't stop thinking about how much I want a vacation. A vacation on a beach where I do nothing but read and nap and drink lots of pina coladas.
