Our Bambino's Nursery

George's nursery

Serendipitously we finished George's nursery two days before his came into our life. We didn't realize that two days later he would be here but it couldn't have been more perfect that we had just finished his nursery.

With the nursery we wanted to go with something classic that could grow with him and also could have some baseball elements without being over the top baseball kids rooms, which I am so not a fan of.

The crib we got from Pottery Barn its the Kendall fixed gate crib, it is still on sale and you can't beat the price. The bedding is Little Dots from Dwell Studio for Target, unfortunately it looks like you can't get it in stores anymore but you can find it online. I just love the the bedding because it isn't too babyish. The dresser, that we are also using as a changing table is the Hemnes 8-drawer dresser from Ikea. Early on in the nursery planning process I decided that I wanted a blue dresser and was pretty much fixated on it. After looking at some super pricey options at Land of Nod, Pottery Barn or kid's furniture stores we finally found this one at Ikea that couldn't have been more perfect. The chair is a rocker/recliner is the Newco Jayden Upholstered Recliner from Babies R Us, I loved that the chair didn't look like a nursery chair plus it is super comfortable. The bookshelf is Expedit from Ikea, who doesn't love Ikea. The toy chest is something my mom gave me at my baby shower. It was full of tons of wonderful things for George and me. I love that there are so many pieces of George's room that will be able to grow with him and that he can cherish for a long time.

Most of the prints, tin signs, and knick knacks on the shelves are baseball items that Brett already had. It was nice to be able to put such special & personal touches in George's room.

We would like to thank our parents for helping us with the furniture and helping make George's nursery possible. Also I want to thank my mom for painting George's initials and the wood plates on the bookshelf and the door.

So that is our little Bambino's nursery.

Three Weeks Old

Today was my original due date, obviously George had other plans and instead of us thinking about labor or anticipating meeting our little guy we are already taking care of a three week old. So crazy. Yesterday George turned three weeks old, three weeks old! I can't believe he has already been in our life for three weeks. Thankfully Brett and I are starting to get into the swing of things as new parents. We still have a lot to learn but we are freaking out a lot less, thats a good thing right?

Here is George at three weeks old.

This weekend my mom is in town. It is so nice to have her around. She was here when George was born but had to quickly head back to Las Vegas for work so this is the first time she has really been able to spend lots of time with George. It's wonderful to see George with his grandma.

Last night we gave George his first real bath which was quite overdue ;) It wasn't as traumatic as I thought it would be and we all seemed to survive.

I am starting to adjust to being on maternity leave. Its so weird to not have to work. I am just starting to realize that its okay not to be thinking or stressing about work. Eventually I am sure that I will freak out about having to go back to work and be sad that I am no longer on maternity leave. I am trying to just enjoy the time that I have right now with George.

Two Weeks Old

*We should have posted this on Thursday, August 19th but the whole lack of sleep thing. Also on top of that I was sick this last week, so Brett was taking care of sick momma and sick baby. Thankfully, we remembered to take his picture.

The second week proved to be much harder than week one. Right when you think you are finally getting into the stride of parenthood and your confidence is building then BAM George no longer wants to sleep at night and then one member of the baby taking care of team is rendered useless. It was a hard week, thankfully we are starting to emerge on the other side and realize that we can do this AND that there will be more weeks like this.

It wasn't all bad this week, at George's two week pediatrician appointment he had gained 15ozs since his previous appt only 9 days earlier. Not too shabby and its always great to hear the pediatrician say that we are doing a great job :)

Two Weeks Old

Last weekend we decided to give George his first bath, but since we were still waiting for his umbilical cord to fall out he got a good old fashioned sponge bath. Which you can tell from this photo he did not enjoy.

First Bath (sponge bath)

I don't blame him though and believe me it broke my heart to see him getting all worked up but he was a stinky little boy. This weekend we are going to attempt a real bath and hopefully he enjoys that a little bit more.

Also we decided to try out some tummy time this week. I wasn't sure if he would enjoy it or not and not only did he enjoy it (for awhile) I was surprised how strong he is. I was afraid he would be able to roll over at one point and let's just say I am not ready for that at all.

Tummy Time

One more week under our belt, can't wait to see what week three has in store for us.

One Week Old

George is already one week old. I can't believe how fast this last week went. Just a week ago we were going about our life as normal and then on the morning of Thursday, August 5th we woke up and the life we knew it was going to change forever.

One Week Old

Here are photos from the first week of George's life.

This week has been a whirlwind, a happy whirlwind of crazy baby stuff that has turned our life upside down in such a good way. We are starting to get into a schedule and are adjusting to our new family. Sammy and Maggie are doing great with George and we couldn't be happier about that. They say that babies get used to sounds that they hear in the womb and wouldn't you know that all those months of Sammy and Maggie barking don't phase George at all now, which is truely a blessing.

Okay now I am off to get some sleep because they say when baby sleeps you sleep. So sleep I will.

He surprised us by showing up 22 days before his due date. He's perfect & healthy. We are so in love with him.

We got home from the hospital yesterday and are adjusting to being a new family. If you want more daily updates you can follow Brett or I on twitter. For now twitter is the easiest way for us to give updates but we will definitely keep you all updated on the blog once we start getting more sleep.

a first

35w5d

There's me, 35 weeks and 5 days. Only 30 more days to go until my due date. Did you know that Baby McG is the size of a large cantaloupe (according to whattoexpect.com); he's 19 to 22 inches long and already 6 lbs. To think he is only going to get bigger. I can't wait to give birth :)

So tonight I was out grabbing dinner and the woman behind the counter taking my order asked me how much longer I had. I answered only 4 more weeks happily and then realized that she was the first stranger that has said anything to me about my pregnancy. Yes, a pregnancy first happened tonight. Its usually something that happens earlier in the pregnancy for most women but I think that I have carried Baby McG in a way that I really didn't start showing until later in my pregnancy. I am also not a super skinny girl so it's not as obvious or at least I would like to believe that its not super obvious that I am pregnant until you see me waddle (yes the dreaded waddle). Sometimes I wish I would get more comments or questions from strangers BUT then I think about how awesome it has been that I haven't had a single stranger touch my belly throughout this pregnancy. I also haven't received ANY unsolicited advice or comments about making sure I am taking care of the baby, etc. It's truly been nice but I will say I enjoyed the stranger tonight asking me about my baby. It was sweet.

Today we had our weekly doctors appt, yep I am going weekly. It's great to get to hear his little heartbeat on a weekly basis. I don't think there is any other sound in the world that is more precious to a pregnant woman than the sound of her baby's heartbeat. Baby McG is doing great and he seems to be super content on the inside. Now we are just playing the waiting game. Family and friends have all started to make predictions on whether he will be early or late. It's kind of fun to guess but really at the same time its a little nerve wracking not knowing. It's like Christmas in a way but the biggest difference is that you just don't know when Christmas is going to get here. It could be any day.

So for now we are just waiting patiently for Baby McG's birthday.
